Instructions

How to play

The launcher is the whole install. You should not download a separate client zip or run connect scripts by hand.

1. Game account

Create an account on this website. Username: letters and numbers. Password: 6–16 characters. Use the same values at the in-game login screen.

2. Launcher

Download and run CoALauncher.exe. If SmartScreen appears: More info → Run anyway. After that, use the desktop shortcut.

3. Play (one button)

In the launcher, click Play. That single action:

  1. Downloads the client zip the first time (tens of gigabytes) into the install folder.
  2. Unpacks it (skips other people’s WTF\Account data).
  3. Writes realmlist and the login overlay so the client talks to this test realm, not the old official login.
  4. On later launches, checks file hashes and only downloads what changed.
  5. Starts Ascension.exe.

After the download completes, be patient. The first install must extract the contents of the full game client to your computer. Any updates following this initial install will not require the full client download; it will only download the updated files.

Install folder is under the expander in the launcher if you need a specific drive. Do not point it at some other realm’s client.

4. In game

  1. Log in with the account from step 1.
  2. Create a character as one of the 21 Conquest of Azeroth classes. There is no Warrior or other stock WotLK class on this realm.
  3. Optional: add 3.3.5 addons under Interface\AddOns.
